The Bonner Heritage
Farm consists of 11 historic structures that chronicle over 100 years and
four generations of family farming in northern Illinois. The farm is a significant
historic resource telling an important family story, a westward expansion
story, a farming/technology/food production story and an architectural story.
The Lake County Forest Preserve acquired the farm and eight acres of land
surrounding it in 1995. Carow Architects Planners were commissioned in the
summer of 2001 to bring the plans for the restoration of the site to a reality.
These include the integration of an historic landscape plan, site enhancements
with trails and parking, indoor and outdoor exhibits and complete restoration
of a 1850's farmhouse. The firm is preparing a historic structures report,
documents for stablizing and restoring the buildings, and studies for renovation
and site re-use options.
