Renovation of the 19,000-square-foot
building built in 1978 and a new two-story addition of 31,000 square feet.
Adult services
are on the first floor and the children's library and meeting room are on
the second floor of the new addition, reached by a floating glass stair.
The first floor of the new addition provides a central lobby with dual entries,
exhibition space, circulation desk, and glass stairway to the second floor.
The lobby is flanked by current books/audio visual collections, administration,
and concourse to the existing building on one side, and circulation workroom,
technical services, washrooms, and receiving on the other. The existing
building has twin reading rooms with cathedral ceilings and a central service
space which house fiction and non-fiction. The lower level provides
the staff lounge, conference center, and mechanical rooms.
The project was partially
funded by a State Library Grant, and a successful $5.6 million public referendum.
